Illustration Nowadays, gadgets are like an inseparable part of you. It helps you with your everyday life, getting more job done on the go. At the same time, gadgets are also used as a statement of prestige. In some countries, people tend to buy the highest-end, most advanced and expensive gadgets, even though they use them to merely browse the Internet, take calls, and send messages. This shift of luxury and lifestyle also tempts criminals to make the shift from stealing jewelries to gadgets. Gadgets are easier to sell in the Black Market, even without the warranty card, packaging box, or other compliments because there are strong demands for these little pieces of tech. One gadget that has the highest demands among others is iPhone. Whether you like it or not, whether it is as functional as the gadget you’re using to read this post or not, iPhones are dead expensive, and many people want one. Fortunately, in response to this, Apple has a kill-switch feature that prevents the phone from being reactivated without your Apple ID password. Although it’s not perfect, it’s still nice to have at least one deterrent than none, right? At least it’ll make thieves think …

Fixing That Yellow Tint in Windows

In Guides by Bintoro Adi GunaLeave a Comment

Again, it’s been ages since I updated the post in this blog. The internship got me and that made my holidays more precious than spending time with computers. Fortunately, all of those are now behind me, although there’s still paperwork to write. Well, the point is that my timeframe has become more… loose, and I have more time to breathe. Anyway, enough about me and my end-of-the-year holiday. Today I’m here to talk about a small glitch that has been plaguing the Windows Photo Viewer recently. Yes, if you have that strange yellow tint in the viewer, then you have this glitch. I first noticed this issue when I first used Windows 8 and installed the Office 2013 package. I don’t know what’s the cause, since people on the forums also reported this issue ever since installing new graphics drivers. Whatever the cause is, I’m here to share a solution on how to solve it. Notice something wrong in this picture? If you’re Indonesian, you should :p It turns out that the culprit is the misconfigured color profile of your Windows’ Display Settings. If you don’t know how to solve it, hit past the break and I’ll give you the …

Logging Out of BlackBerry ID (Prior OS7)

In Guides by Bintoro Adi GunaLeave a Comment

BBID Logo I’m a long time BlackBerry user and I’ve been using BlackBerry since their 9700 line. Unfortunately, I started using BlackBerry not because I’m intrigued with their secure system. I was drawn to BlackBerry because of BBM boom in my country. Sure, I like their unique design and their comfy keyboards (I’ve got to admit that they make the best keyboard in the mobile market) and that’s why I’m wielding a Q10. But my experience with it hasn’t always been as smooth as silk. Aside from their laggy and buggy BBOS (sorry, Folks. I’m just telling my experience), one thing I hate the most is their BBID system aside from the hourglass problem. Even in BB10 they haven’t fixed this issue. The primary reason I hate it is because once you’ve signed in, you’ll never sign out unless you perform a security wipe. Sounds like trouble for just signing out from an ID, right? Heck, even Apple and Android let you switch their proprietary accounts. However, there’s a good news for you BBOS owners, as there is a way to log out of your BlackBerry ID. As for BB10 owner such as myself, I’m sorry but we’re out of luck. …

Remove Those Intruding Ads!

Illustration of Intrusive Ads Being a long-time Android user, it’s hard not to get familiar with ads. Yes, being Open Source, there are countless SDKs involving various advertising networks and platforms that developers can use to monetize their applications. I don’t say it’s bad, and I can’t say it is because it’s actually a win-win solution, for both developers and users. Monetizing apps with ads actually helps everyone. It helps developers get money for their hard work, it helps advertisers doing their business, and it also helps companies market their products to a greater audience. Most importantly, ads in apps allow us users to get more free apps in the Play Store. See the picture? However, despite that fact, there are also limits to which apps can be monetized. Earning money isn’t wrong, but sometimes the way we use to get money isn’t right. An example of this is when I was asked a few days ago by my father to fix his tablet. It’s an Android tablet which is kind of hard to use for older people, so I thought that it might be a misconfiguration of some kind. However, I was shocked to find out that it’s much …

Frozen Windows 8 Task Manager

In Guides by Bintoro Adi GunaLeave a Comment

Windows 8 has been around us for quite a while. Yes, many people don’t like its new design and the loss of Start Menu, which disappoints most veteran Windows users out there. I myself don’t like the tile-centric Start Menu, at least until I learn to live with it. Heck, if it hadn’t been caused by its superb and light performance, I would have already got back to Windows 7. Then Windows 8.1 came along and it’s said to bring back the Start button that usually sits on the left-bottom corner of your display. It’s still in Beta, though; scheduled to arrive in October. Windows 8’s Task Manager is Pretty Neat and Powerful Anyway, I’m not here to discuss about Windows 8. As you can see from the title, I had a problem with my Task Manager. Starting a few weeks ago, I couldn’t get an up-to-date condition of my system in the “Performance” tab. At first I thought that there’s something wrong with my system; maybe my processor starts to ask for replacement, or my fans are causing all sorts of trouble. However, the solution to my problem turns out to be very simple… This is the culprit. Yes, …

Which WinRAR Compression Do You Need? [GUIDE]

In Guides by Bintoro Adi GunaLeave a Comment

Okay, this is finally the time when I write a serious (and perhaps useful) post. The last time I wrote a post was about the first anniversary for Steve Jobs’ passing. You can read it below this post. He was one of great people that mankind will miss. Anyway, the post before the anniversary was already weeks ago. Thanks to the busy routines and tons of assignments in my lecture, I almost abandoned by beloved blog. Today, though… marks the day for my return. Hit the break if you’re interested about the meaning behind ‘Store’, ‘Fast’, ‘Best’, etc. 😀 Alright, who doesn’t know WinRAR? This compression software has become almost an obligation to all PC users. Macs get some love, too… although it’s still using Command-Line Interface (or Terminal… something like Command Prompt in Windows, if you’d like to know). Totally different than the PC version. Yes, WinRAR is a shareware, costing $29 for a single-user, and starting from $21 for multi-user license, and as low as $6 for a massive multi-user option. The final stable version for WinRAR is currently 4.20 which brings support to multi-core CPU in certain compression methods, faster speed, and better compression, although it costs …

How to Claim Mountain Lion App Code

Mountain Lion – equipped Mac Okay, I know it’s been 2 months since Apple decided to give away Mountain Lion to recent Macs, which somehow surprised me, since no one has ever, really, given away their latest OS, for free (it has $19.99 value. Don’t be disappointed if you’re pretty greedy like me; wanting something as expensive as possible to be free 😉 :p) So, although Apple is a company which now is getting worse in the public’s eye (due to its relentless fight against Samsung in court), there’s at least one catch: it indeed fulfills its promise, and not in a difficult way, too. Yesterday, I thought I might claim my copy of Mountain Lion, and I did… pretty easily. I’ll teach you guys how to claim it today. Here goes: Oh, and before attempting this guide, please make sure that you have an active and stable internet connection (broadband, please), alongside an Apple ID. Extend Your Volume [Tutorial]

In Guides by Bintoro Adi GunaLeave a Comment

Okay, so I’ve been busy with my lectures; that’s why I can’t do anything about this blog. Besides, I’m already a university student… and as a freshman, there are lots of things to do… after I got my first Mac. Well, today I’ve just found out something interesting; something that might save you minutes, hours, or even days from formatting your slow PC thanks to the shortage of C: volume space. It’s proven… I’ve just done this trick, and I don’t think I need to format this old PC. In case you don’t know… we’re going to extend the volume of your C:. This trick doesn’t do magic by miraculously adding extra bytes into your internal storage. This is only applicable only if you have an unused partition. For example, the legacy from your deleted second OS. I’m making this guide based on Windows 7. There might be some similarities with Windows Vista, I don’t know… See the guide after the break 😀 The fastest way possible to access the feature is through the Start Menu’s Search feature. Type ‘Computer Management’ in the search box, and quickly press Enter. Right from the newly-popped window, you should see three sections in …

Buy from BB AppWorld with XL Axiata Credit

In Guides by Bintoro Adi GunaLeave a Comment

Okay, some of you may have already know this… but a few telco operators in Indonesia have actually made a contract with RIM regarding to BlackBerry App World. Yes, if you’re using XL Axiata and Indosat, then you can purchase apps directly from BlackBerry AppWorld using your credit balance instead of credit card or PayPal. This is great for us Indonesians (at least for me), since I’m still afraid to give up a credit card’s information. For example, I bought my Steam games by borrowing my aunt’s credit card. She lives in United States, so she’s familiar with online shopping. Call me a conservative guy, but credit cards are easy to hack. Once it’s hacked, your bill will skyrocket, and that’s what I’m afraid of the most. So, it’s fairly easy to do this. Here are the steps you need to follow: From Handset (OS6 and above) Open BlackBerry AppWorld from your homescreen. Select ‘My Account’ from the menu just below the featured apps slider. Choose ‘Payment Options’. Wait and let the app download your account details. You may need to re-enter your password, just to make sure it’s really you messing with your own account. Choose your operator (mine’s …
